In the past, the iPhones SE were among the most popular models in our device-as-a-service (DaaS) offering. Why is that the case? Quite simply, they offered our customers powerful Apple technology at affordable prices, with an excellent price-performance ratio.

With the new iPhone 16e, Apple is continuing this tradition by offering a device that is both technically and price-wise attractive.

iPhone SE is now called iPhone 16e

Why is the 16e actually called “16e” and not iPhone SE (2025), as might have been expected?

Apple did not provide any usable information on this. We already know this from other iPhone models such as the iPhone XR and iPhone XS – and also from the previous “SE” models themselves, where it is still not entirely clear what the letter combination actually stands for. (A hot candidate would be “Special Edition”).

iPhone 16e: technical specifications

But now to the current iPhone 16e. It comes with iOS 18. That means that the iPhone 16e joins the ranks of smartphones with generative AI and is ready for Apple’s AI “Apple Intelligence,” which is expected in Germany in April.

Apple iPhone 16e
Instead of the “dynamic island,” there is a classic notch. A camera button is not part of the design.

The iPhone 16e has a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display—Apple code for OLED technology. The display offers a resolution of 2532 x 1170 pixels at 460 ppi and a maximum of 60 hertz.

The iPhone 16e is powered by the powerful A18 chip, a hexa-core processor with two performance cores and four efficiency cores. The in-house hexa-core CPU is flanked by a four-core graphics chip (the GPUs in the other iPhone 16 models each have five cores). Storage variants are available with 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB.

Apple relies on a single-lens array with 48-megapixel resolution for the main camera. Videos can be recorded in 4K, supported by an optical image stabilizer. The front camera also records videos in 4K; the “TrueDepth” camera offers 12-megapixel resolution and an f / 1.9 aperture. The selfie camera supports Face ID for biometric facial recognition, which enables fast and secure authentication.

For the first time, Apple is also using its own modem: the Apple C1. Until now, modems from Qualcomm were used. The new modem is said to be very energy efficient and contribute to a long battery life. It is dual SIM capable (including dual eSIM).

iPhone 16e as a company cell phone

For business applications, the iPhone 16e offers numerous advantages. The AI functions are certainly the most interesting: in the workplace, the new writing tools and voice functions are likely to save the most time. We are looking forward to the roll-out of “Apple Intelligence” and the first reports on experiences with it.

On the hardware side, the A18 chip ensures fast performance for multitasking and data-intensive applications. 5G enables fast data transfers, which is particularly essential for cloud-based services and remote work. As usual, Apple does not specify the battery capacity; however, teardown values will likely appear online soon. However, it is expected that you can stay productive for a whole day.

Meanwhile standard, but still worth mentioning for company devices is the dual SIM function: Because users can operate two phone numbers in parallel, the iPhone 16e is ideal for a private and business mixed use. Incidentally, this is basically provided for in all our smartphones and can be implemented securely and in compliance with data protection regulations through a rigid MDM and mobile security concept.
