Mobile network operator

In mobile telephony, a carrier is the operator of a mobile communications network.

In this context, operation means both the establishment and maintenance of the technical infrastructure and the marketing of services.

Mobile network operators also make their infrastructure available to other mobile communications providers on the basis of cooperation agreements. In Germany for example, the market is covered almost equally by three major mobile network operators. All other providers use one of these networks.
