COPE (corporate-owned, personally enabled)
Our glossary explains basic terms and abbreviations relating to mobile working, the use of smartphones and tablets in the corporate environment (Enterprise Mobility) and security aspects in the use of mobile devices.
COPE (corporate-owned, personally enabled)
Deployment method for mobile devices
In the COPE approach, a company procures mobile devices such as laptops, smartphones or tablets, but also allows users to use them privately.
COPE and CYOD
Mixed use can make measures such as mobile application management necessary for IT compliance reasons. A variant of COPE is CYOD (“choose your own device”): Here, users can determine the end device to be used themselves.
The “bring your own device” approach, in which users use their private devices in the company, can be seen as an alternative, although it raises a lot of security and compliance questions.
