FAQ

How sustainable is the Everphone service and what is its impact on my carbon footprint?

The production and use of smartphones and tablets has a significant impact on the environment. At Everphone, we do our best to provide a sustainable service for mobile device use.

We focus on the following aspects:

  1. Reducing the number of devices,
  2. Extending the life of devices, and
  3. Carbon neutrality of Everphone as an organization.

1. Reducing the number of devices

Every year, over one billion smartphones are produced globally. At the same time, 300 million mobile devices lie unused in households in Germany alone.

We strive to reduce the overall number of devices. We achieve this by following the concept of “using instead of owning” and rolling out and also taking back our smartphones as needed. This means that only the company devices you really need are still in circulation.

What’s more, our company devices can also be used privately, so you and your colleagues don’t need a second personal device. One device is enough for everything – we take care of the separation of the data with your IT.

2. Extending device life cycles

For mobile devices, the manufacturing phase is the one with the highest CO2 emissions and the greatest environmental impact. Manufacturing, including transportation and raw material extraction, accounts for about 8 5% of total CO2 emissions. So the greatest potential for savings simply comes from using the equipment for longer.

We promote this, for example, by offering extended lease periods of 36 months instead of 24. What’s more, almost all of our returned equipment is refurbished and given a second lease of life–around 95 percent of it is feasible. Only around five percent are so old or worn out that they are sent for recycling to recover the raw materials.

3. Climate neutrality of Everphone as an organization

Everphone is an organization with employees, with offices and working materials. Our goal is to be climate neutral. This requires many small steps–the avoidance of unnecessary travels, saving electricity or the paperless office contribute just as much as conscious heating.

We also set off emissions: with reforestation projects in Madagascar.
