Remote wipe, also known as remote delete, remote reset or enterprise wipe, is the process of deleting company-relevant data from a mobile device remotely.
IT administrators have the option with remote wipe–usually via mobile device management software or a container app–to "wipe" individual folders or specified areas. In detail, the procedure is influenced by the mobile device itself, the mobile operating system and, if necessary, third-party software such as MDM. In the context of IT compliance, remote wiping can become an important security aspect, for example if a company cell phone is stolen and the company has to fear data theft or other cybercriminal activities.
