The term "roaming" refers to the use of the SIM card (or eSIM) of one's own mobile network provider (operator of the home network) in another mobile network (visited network).The visited mobile network can be either international roaming, i.e., a network abroad, or another mobile network in one's own country (national roaming).
International Roaming
In the case of international roaming, telecommunications services are provided proportionately by a foreign network operator. This is the case when users are abroad. This means that they can make phone calls, send and receive short messages (SMS) or surf the Internet on their mobile devices while abroad.
Roaming costs
These roaming services provided by the foreign provider are billed via the home provider as so-called roaming prices. As a rule, higher prices are charged for this compared to the domestic price. Since 2017, international roaming in EU countries has been free of charge according to the "Roam like at Home" principle: Users can use their domestic rate at the same conditions in other EU countries as at home.
However, this does not apply to business rates.
