SIM-only
Our glossary explains basic terms and abbreviations relating to mobile working, the use of smartphones and tablets in the corporate environment (Enterprise Mobility) and security aspects in the use of mobile devices.
SIM-only
Mobile phone plan without hardware component
SIM-only rates are mobile rates that include only a SIM card and thus access to the mobile network as part of the mobile communications contract.
In contrast to a so-called bundle rate, no subsidized hardware (today usually a smartphone or tablet) is offered. In the context of a company cell phone rental model, SIM-only rates allow greater flexibility as well as cost savings.
SIM-only and costs
Companies often refrain from switching to a more favorable rate at the end of the minimum contract term. As a result, they often remain on rates that are significantly too expensive due to the ongoing subsidies for mobile devices. SIM-only rates are also available as special business rates.
