With the weight of millions of investors’ euros on her shoulders, how does a CFO approach her day-to-day pressures?
Everphone Chief Financial Officer Dr. Veronika von Heise-Rotenburg sat down to talk to Mafalda Johannsen, alongside other guests, on the new video podcast series, A Day in a Life of a Persona.
Each week, guests from the upper levels of innovative startups meet with Mafalda to talk about the upsides and downsides of work in their profession. The podcast has been running since November 2022, and has included such episodes as A Day in a Life of a CEO, A Day in a Life of a Head of HR, and, this week’s episode, A Day in a Life of a CFO.
“I’m still in firefighting mode”
In the roundtable discussion, Veronika is asked about what keeps her motivated under pressure. Veronika reveals that she leans on the supportive communities on the startup scene. “The thing I love about the startup environment is that everyone’s so helpful”, “we have CFO communities where you can ask every question regardless of how stupid it is.”
Of course, as CFO time is a scarce resource, and Veronika shares insight into what gets on her nerves. One of the most annoying things is when undercover sales people contact her while pretending only to be curious about her work: “If you want to sell me something then do it! What I don’t understand is when you’re not asking a question out of curiosity, but because you want to sell me something!”
