Company-owned device

In terms of enterprise mobility, a company-owned device is a mobile device that is procured by a company and made available to employees either for purely professional use or for mixed private and professional use.

The characteristic feature is that the mobile device, usually a laptop, tablet or smartphone, remains the property of the issuing company during the period of use and thereafter—unless the company decides to rent the mobile device. Company devices touch on far-reaching employment law, data protection and security issues.
