General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

EU regulation

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, also EU-GDPR) is a regulation of the European Union for the protection of personal data.

The regulation prescribes how personal data can and must be processed. This applies to both public institutions and companies.

In Germany and other EU countries, compliance with the regulation is checked on a random basis by on-site company inspections.

GDPR and Enterprise Mobility

In the narrower context of enterprise mobility, the GDPR stipulates that private data must be rigorously separated from business data on mobile devices with mixed private and business use (for example, in the case of BYOD deployment). Otherwise, the use of certain applications such as WhatsApp on a company cell phone constitutes a violation of the GDPR.
